We were lazy bums yesterday - well, I was a lazy bum. The better 7/8ths and a former TA / lab slave went to some property that we watch for others and spent four hours clearing brush and creating a fire brake. In the process she discovered that our gas powered weed whacker has a pinhole leak in the plastic gas tank, so that will need to be replaced.
Me, I organized a bookcase, paid some bills, and did some shredding.
President Obama went to Notre Dame and delivered a speech on political discourse. As he pointed out in his speech that there are always going to be the pro/anti abortion zealots who will never, ever, change their minds about the topic. Fair enough. At least we should be civil about the discussion - and this goes for both sides of the debate.

Local graduation took place on Saturday. I took a handful of pictures. Nothing too spectacular happened. Rather boring all told. Only "major" difference was that instead of a handshake with the president when receiving the diploma there was a fist bump.
Of some interest was the note that the president's executive assistant is retiring. Here's hoping that the better 7/8ths' boss will fail magnificently upwards - after all, the president's executive assistant is far better than community college coordinator - and that the better 7/8ths will force the issue about taking over the community college coordinator position; she already does half of the work that the coordinator is supposed to be doing, and she is far more readily accessible than the community college coordinator who works maybe 6 hrs a day for 8 hrs a day pay.

Last semester grades: triple A (i.e., A, A, A) as hoped.

Have to run to the big city tomorrow for pre-surgery bloodwork, talk to the nutritionist and the anesthesiologist, and see how much $$$ the hospital wants in advance (our out-of-network out-of-pocket expenses are supposed to be capped at $3K per incident - but I can see the hospital asking for more then reimbursing us the difference). Then get the car it's bi-annual detailing, go to a furniture store that is going out of business to see about buying bookcases, and swing by a photo studio to pay for an upcoming workshop (the check I sent them was returned as being undeliverable).

And so remember: quondo omni plunkus mortati (when all else fails, play dead).
