I've been giving some serious thought to shutting down this blog.
I pay $15 a month to the blog provider (charging a credit card). The credit card company, who shall go unnamed but has an ad tag of "What's in Your Wallet?" is also charging me $4 / a month for the privilege of using their card. (This account is the only thing being charged on the card, and I pay it off every month.)
I also am not thrilled with the new compose editor, or the lag time when making an entry. If I make a mistake and push the "Backspace" key, I swear that I can see the photons move slowly as the cursor takes its own damn sweet time to remove previous characters.
Plus, the fact of the matter is that I am far too busy to make more than just the occasional post. Between going to work full time and going to school full time, I rarely have time to sit and write anything that isn't school/work related.
I have some options.
1) Keep the status quo. Continue to pay ~ $20 a month (~$240 a year) and try to make weekly posts to justify the expense of keeping this blog up and active.
2) Move this blog to another service (Bl*gger / W*rdpress) that is free (yeah, I know, you get what you pay for when it is free).
3) Get my act together over break and put up content for my web site (have the domain) and integrate this blog as part of the web site - which will also be personal work related and host my portfolio...as soon as I figure out which hosting site I want to use (GoDaddy is a serious contender since that is where I have my domain registration).
4) Let this blog die a graceful death at the end of the year. Close the account here, which would save me $240 a year. I would also cancel the credit card - if I'm not going to use it, I'm certainly not going to pay $4 a month to the company, which is pure profit. (Watch, they will waive the monthly fee and up my credit limit to keep me.) It isn't like I need the credit card, and closing it won't adversely affect my credit rating (the amount of credit on it is small vs my overall credit debt / available ratio).
I'm kind of opting for #4 right now. I do need to do #3 - at least the portfolio part. The easiest option is #1. Just maintain the status quo. Maybe add in a "photo of the week." Dunno. Will think on it a while longer before making the decision.
